ON FLAG DAY, ONE POLITICAL DIGITAL REVOLTION BANNER IS FLYING FAST-FORWARD
#RevoltDC Announces New Hackathon Sponsors, Over 100 Developers Confirmed
(June 14, 2013; Washington D.C.) – There’s a constant struggle across all industries as well as the political spectrum to attract new, talented developers. In fact, on June 22, 2013, there are competing political digital “hackathons,” one on each coast. But only the inaugural #RevoltDC Hackathon promises to truly challenge the best and brightest developers and programmers to revolutionize citizen/voter engagement. Its approach has garnered the interest of major corporate and organization sponsors and already 100+ developers have registered.
#RevoltDC Hackathon’s presenting sponsor is AT&T and organizers recently announced that the Consumer Electronics Association has also joined as a supporter. Application programming interface (API) sponsors include Resonate, Facebook, The Sunlight Foundation, PopVOX, Crimson, WidgetMakr and Twilio. Other sponsors include The Application Developers Alliance, MoDev, Grassloot, SalientMG, Beekeeper Group, ACA Video, Agenda and Microsoft.
Red Bull is providing the fuel to keep developers on the cutting edge throughout the event.
#RevoltDC will be live-streaming the presentations, judging and awards segment.
Prizes include:
- A $2500 cash Top Prize
- Four $1000 cash category prize winners
- A $250 prize for best use of Twilio’s API
- Two honorary winners
- One will receive a IPad Mini from SalientMG
- One will receive a Nokia Lumia 820 phone
Hackers can learn more and still register at www.revoltdc.com.
“Tech is about disruption, and [political] parties should focus on the grassroots with the best idea and best delivery,” organizer Andrew Hemingway said in an interview.
The #RevoltDC Hackathon will take place in DC’s unique new incubator space, 1776, home to some the hottest start-ups in the world.
“Our goal is to evangelize political technology amongst the tech community as the desire to increase investment in digital tools grows amongst political consultants, campaigns and organizations on both sides of the aisle,” Lara Aulestia, co-founder of #RevoltDC said.
